Volunteer Driver

Children’s Transportation Centre (CTC)

Purpose: driving youth in care from foster homes to visits and appointments.

Volunteers will;

  • Serve as a safe and screened option for drives
  • Increase child well-being
  • Develop stronger families

Position Summary:

Volunteer will pick-up and drop-off children and youth living in care for access visits and appointments during business hours, evenings and weekends, at all Children's Aid Society and Catholic Children's Aid Society locations across the city.

Activities include;

  • Receive drive requests and confirm rides with foster families
  • Ensure the safety of car and maintain safe driving standards
  • Pick up children and youth at home placements and drive to destination
  • Communicate with program staff and problem solve constructively
  • Role model for children and represent the department
  • Ensure clients are received by appropriate staff
  • Completes related administrative documents

Volunteer drivers are an integral link in our continuity of service by ensuring safe access to appointments which strengthens families and provides enhanced permanency and well-being through relationships.

Competencies:

  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and excellent customer service skills
  • Understanding of driver’s safety is essential
  • Ability to safely drive in a range of conditions
  • Ability to drive multiple young people and sibling groups
  • Ability to work calmly and solve problems in challenging situations
  • Reliable, consistent, committed, mature and flexible

Program-Specific Requirements:

  • Follows program practices and policies
  • Must be able to conduct drives City-wide between 8am-11am, and 3pm-8pm
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Maintains a safe vehicle, has a cell phone and abides by related laws
  • Reports disclosures, accidents and conflicts
  • Current Foster Parents and staff are not eligible
